How We Bill
Initial consultation
A one-time consultation at a flat rate. You describe your situation, we assess it from a legal perspective, and tell you what steps are available, how long they will take, and what they are likely to cost.
Flat fee
If the scope of work is foreseeable, we agree on a fixed price—for example, for a purchase agreement, a will, or assistance with an uncontested divorce. You’ll know the amount in advance, and it won’t change even if the process takes longer than expected.
Hourly rates
For open-ended projects, we bill based on the actual time spent. Upon request, we can agree on a cap, above which we will consult with you before any further costs are incurred. You will receive a detailed breakdown of services rendered.
Fees in accordance with RATG and AHK
In legal proceedings, fees are often determined in accordance with the Attorney Fee Schedule Act and the General Fee Criteria. The basis for calculation is the amount in dispute: the higher it is, the higher the fees prescribed by the schedule for each step of the proceedings.
Legal expenses insurance
If you have legal expense insurance, we will obtain a confirmation of coverage on your behalf if you retain our services and settle the matter directly with the insurer. Please check in advance whether your policy covers the relevant area of law and whether any waiting periods have expired.
Reimbursement of Costs and Legal Aid
In civil proceedings, the losing party must reimburse the winning party for its costs (Sections 41 et seq. of the Code of Civil Procedure [ZPO]); in the event of a partial victory, the costs are apportioned or waived. Anyone who cannot afford the costs of litigation is entitled to legal aid under the conditions set forth in Sections 63 et seq. of the Code of Civil Procedure [ZPO].
